Weighing in on Universal Health Care

I heard public appeal for the president's proposed health plan is dropping today. The reason cited on Fox 2 news this morning was that people were concerned that it would cost too much. Yet we sit by as the medical industry rakes in record profits. As the demand for medical treatment continue to increase so does the profit. If we as a country begin to foot this bill there are certain advantages but serious discretion must be used.

One advantage to universal health care would be security which all citizens of the U.S. should feel. We should have the comfort of knowing that we can get medical care in our home land should illness occur. This will instantly cut some degree of stress which is a major contributor to poor health. Another advantage is we could promote wellness potentially as a condition of enjoying these benefits. Many people believe that God helps those that help themselves, so surely a person having access to health care would be willing to assume a healthy lifestyle which will result in healthy bodies and eventually less cost. In short, under this plan we would be putting more emphasis on education about and action toward striving to actively live healthier.

On the other hand and equally as important, it is essential that universal healthcare be properly managed. Those in administration and finance must insure that government dollars go toward good service at the most economical rate. They must also be careful to monitor recipients that no longer qualify after they have achieved a better quality of life and no longer need this benefit.

Finally our country's national security is affected by all issues. If we are not healthy, we can't defend ourselves. Universal health care is a good idea for this time of recovery in our country but it will only work if we stick together. So as we weigh in on this issue individually perhaps we can remember that whatever we choose to do will take our collective best.
